Year 5 Friend or Foe

Year 5 have been studying World War II as part of their English, History and Computing lessons. During this topic children studied a book called, ‘Friend or Foe’ by Michael Morpurgo. Year 5 thoroughly enjoyed reading the book and discussing the different themes within the story. Below are some of the key messages children learnt about war during this topic:
‘Michael Morpurgo is trying to tell us about world War II. He wants us to know how it would feel to live without our mums and dads.’ Y.K.
‘I think Michael is trying to tell us that in war just because you’re on the ‘bad’ side doesn’t mean you have to have bad inside your heart.’ M. B.
‘People can’t always choose what they want to do. Just because someone is wearing the uniform of your enemy doesn’t mean they wanted to. Also, nothing can stop you from making friends.’ A.A.
